Sensei Chuck is a 2nd Degree Black Belt (Nidan) and began Judo at a very young age.
It was a family affair, his father is a 5th Degree Black Belt, his
mother a Brown Belt; they have opened
and instructed at more than 8 dojo's across
Massachusetts, New York and now New Jersey.
During high school Chuck was part of his school's
wrestling team. During his senior year he was
ranked 2nd in Western New York and had only one loss
the entire season during the state championships. As team
Captain during his senior year his team continued
it's 6th year of being undefeated in dual meets.
During high school he also traveled to Japan as an
exchange student and trained for several months at
the local high school he attended in the city of
Iwata.
After high school he continued his wrestling career
at SUNY Brockport under the leadership of
Don Murray
the greatest coach in Division III wrestling.
But the competition of Judo was drawing him back, he
started training with
Sensei Ashida,
and after winning that East
Coast Collegiate Championships as a Brown Belt he
was awarded his Black Belt in 1989 after defeating four other
Black Belts during the competition.
During college Chuck also enlisted in the United
States Marine Corps Reserve. After 18 years he
is currently a Gunnery Sergeant (E7) working at
Marine Corps Base Quantico, a veteran of the Iraq
War; serving in Fallujah from 2005 - 2006 and is a Bronze Star
recipient.
